GM Must Recall Millions of Vehicles Due to AirbagIssues
The National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration is making General Motors recall and repair nearly 6 million bigpickup trucks and SUVs.
The recalled vehicles areequipped with potentially dangerous Takataair bag inflators.
The recall will cost GM an estimated $1.2 billion, which is about one-third ofits net income this year.
Drivers can check to see if their vehicles have been recalled by going towww.nhtsa.gov/recalls and keying in their 17-digit vehicle identificationnumber.
The NHTSA saysthe GM inflators in question are at risk of the sametype of explosionafter long-term exposure to high heat andhumidityas other recalled Takata inflators.
Twenty-seven people have been killed worldwide by the exploding inflators,including 18 in the US.
