As of 9am cst - AMITE—Due to extreme winter weather conditions forecast for our area, all Tangipahoa Parish public schools and Tangipahoa Parish School System offices will close on half-day schedule today. School Superintendent Mark Kolwe said his office has been closely monitoring the approaching weather system. In an early briefing Tuesday morning, Office of Homeland Security and National Weather Service officials alerted the district that the frontal system is moving faster than originally thought, bringing the system into our area closer to 2 p.m. today. “For the safety of all our students and personnel, we will close midday to allow everyone to get home safely before the worst of the weather arrives in our area,” Kolwe said. All after school programs and athletic events are cancelled today as well. Kolwe said school officials will continue to monitor the weather. Parents should stay tuned to the local media and to the TangiSchools.org website and Facebook page for updates on when classes will resume.
