Scientists Want To Send Sperm And Egg Samples From 6.7Million Earth Species To The MOON As a 'Modern Global Insurance Policy'
Scientists want to sendsperm and egg samples from 6.7 million of Earth's species to an ark built onthe moon as a “modern global insurance policy.”
Specimens deposited in the lunar gene bank would be kept refrigerated atcryogenic temperatures, with the facility powered by solar panels on the lunarsurface.
The ark would preserve Earth's genetic diversity in the event of a globalcatastrophe such as a supervolcano or an asteroid impact.
